Don Giovanni Reduced OrchestrationDon Giovanni

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Reduced Orchestration: 1111 1000 11111 mandolin, timp (opt)

Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Timpani (optional), Mandolin (on stage)

This orchestral reduction of Mozart’s Don Giovanni is aimed for performance using ten players. The ‘on-stage’ dance music in the Act 1 and Act 2 Finales is fully incorporated into the parts. The timpani part is optional.

The Mandolin appears once and is essential, but could be played from a keyboard or on ‘pizzicato’ strings.

This orchestral reduction is complete and includes all the music from the opera including the less often performed No. 21a Duetto “Per queste tue manine”.

This reduced orchestration of Don Giovanni was created in 1998 for performances at Iford Opera, UK. It has since been performed extensively, most recently in the USA, UK, Czech Republic, Greece and by Opera Warberg in Sweden.

The score and parts have bar numbers.

The 11-piece orchestra underscores the action beautifully”
